2023 Domaine Pierre Usseglio Cote du Rhone

The Domaine Pierre Usseglio is now run by Pierre's two sons Jean-Pierre and Thierry. Half of the vines on the estates are more than 60 years old and the remaining half are around 30 years old. This wine, crafted from a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, and 20% Cinsault, showcases the perfect balance of ripe fruit, savoury herbs, and complexity. Fermented and aged in concrete for 6 months, this wine expresses the purity of its fruit with minimal intervention. Dark purple in the glass, with a spicy nose full of blackberry, fresh flowers and savory aromatics of fresh herbs. Black fruits persist on the layered palate along with lavender, olives and licorice. Think of it as a mini-Chateauneuf-du-Pape, rather than a Cotes-du-Rhone. Medium to full-bodied, with bright acidity keeping it fresh.
