2023 Praeter Vino Rosso

A captivating blend of Syrah, Petit Verdot and Nebbiolo, crafted by an Aussie working in Piedmont.

Talented young gun winemaker, Matt Large juggles making wine between Italy and Australia.  In 2017, Matt’s desire to learn the traditional techniques of Barolo and Barbaresco led to working a vintage at Figli Luigi Oddero in La Morra and was subsequently asked to take on a permanent vintage Assistant Winemaker role which he still holds today.  During that first vintage stint Matt used fruit from Oddero’s vineyard to craft his first wine under his own brand Praeter - Vino Rosso, a field blend of Syrah, Petit Verdot and Nebbiolo.  Not your typical offering from Piedmont, this unique co-fermented blend is an absolute gem.  Red cherries and currants are intertwined with leather, earth and spice backed by muscular tannins which impart some grip.  Succulent but structured, this is a wine that embraces both complexity and drinkability.
