2023 Te Mata Estate Awatea Cabernet Merlot

Te Mata has one of the richest winemaking histories in all of New Zealand with vineyards planted back as far as 1896. The rich history of this iconic Hawke’s Bay producer is enviable in the relatively young NZ wine landscape.  Te Mata has earned numerous accolades as NZ’s greatest producer of Bordeaux blends. The Awatea Cabernet Merlot is immediately inviting on the nose showing blackcurrant and dark plum with subtle tobacco, toasted almond and cedar. The palate is succulent and beautifully rounded displaying terrific fruit power and density.  It’s sturdy and robust with silky texture and superbly structured by polished tannins.
